As the artist created each stroke, she was struck by the way in which the woman in the artwork is looking with such grace and stillness. However, as you touch her ‘like a blind person’, in other words understanding her on a deeper level, you can see her pain. Even though you may want to put your arms around her, her fragile body makes you conscious of stinging her further with one light touch.
