Marcel Heijnen

Dutch photographer Marcel Heijnen has lived in Asia for over half his life. After long periods in Singapore and Hong Kong he is now living in Amsterdam.

At any one time he is working on a number of photo series, from feline to fine art and everything in between, capturing different aspects of street life in major cities against a background of urbanisation and impermanence.

Also a designer and musician, he is self-taught in everything he does, and is driven by an enduring curiosity about life and its many layers of meaning. When it comes to cats and their many layers of meaning, read his Chinese Whiskers series to see what he has discovered so far.

Marcel published 6 photo books to date and is currently working on his 7th which will be published by the British art book publisher Thames & Hudson in spring 2025.

Marcel has participated in many solo exhibitions, group shows and art fairs in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Netherlands and is currently represented by galleries in The Netherlands and Hong Kong.
