Series: Compositions

This work belongs to the Compositions series, an ongoing collection of works which Roberta uses as rather exploratory studies into the nature of her more intricate and advanced works. It is the artist’s approach to understand deeply the emotional and technical roots of her artistry. With Composition I, Roberta tried to understand her need to fill the entire work with details by depriving the work of details, such as in this case and reflect on her emotional reactions to its result. With almost a chronic need to add and fill the entire space Roberta’s intent here was to understand her obsessions by shifting away and letting in more negative and empty space for her to breath in. Composition I is balanced and calm and it somehow remind us of a ship, a vessel which is quite coincidentally what Roberta likes to think of herself – “In her process of creation, Roberta feels as if she becomes a vessel bringing a projection of her mind and all its secrets to life.
