“Caged” is the first piece in the series “Transformation”. The series comprises of three works by the artist that are crucial to her artistic progress and emotional evolution. Roberta produced all of the three works in the matter of a couple of hours one afternoon in 2018. Caged to begin with, is the representation of Roberta’s feeling of sadness and her struggle to find herself, to set herself free of rules, free of a preconceived notion of what art should be like and what would be acceptable to call art. In a path of self-discovery, the artist with an intuitive and abstract hand, and yet still controlled strokes – a bit like pulled punches, she tries to express and conceive that struggle, that sadness, that caged-self that needs to be liberated. It is the first step to the realization that her inner artist needs to be freed. This piece is so important for without trying to free herself, Roberta’s most important works to date would have never come to life. Caged is who she was and how Roberta felt for a certain time in her life and she was able to free herself and her art.
